Providing the ‘fishing rods …’
January 8th, 2009Our Family 2 Family Program offers wonderful, new opportunities to needy families. Our goal is to offer to these families a fishing-rod in order for them to ultimately be able to fish and provide for themselves.
The Postica family, which lives in Romania, is a family that with the Mission’s support, has been able to grow spiritually and emotionally, thus making significant strides towards the ultimate aim of self-sufficiency.
Mother, Svetlana, is a housekeeper and the father, Efim, works periodically in constructions – as and when work is available. Even though it is difficult for the parents to support their 10 children, it is clear that the children are a real blessing to them.
This family has had a very sad past with many difficulties. A while ago, thieves broke into their modest home. They mistreated the children and stabbed Svetlana. That night was a nightmare for the Postica’s. The attackers left a badly injured father lying motionless on the floor, an emotionally devastated mother and trembling and scared children.
“The doctors were amazed by my quick recovery, but I understood that it was God’s hand. He knew that my family needed me and He healed me as soon as possible. He prepared us for our future life,” confessed Svetlana.
This family has been blessed through the Mission’s F2F Program and they have benefited greatly from the material, spiritual and emotional support extended to them by MWB.
“After the attack my wife suffered an emotional collapse. Due to our time spent together with the MWB’s representatives with their counselling, encouragement and prayers, I am happy to notice that my wife is more courageous and is not as scared as before. She has also become more confident and I am grateful to God who worked in a wonderful way with my family. I am happy that she is getting better, because I understand that my children need a confident mother,” confessed Efim, through tears of gratitude.
The Postica children are involved in MWB’s Bible Correspondence Course and the parents study together with the F2F Coordinator a special Bible study curriculum created by MWB’s Christian Input staff. Through these studies, they have got to know God more intimately; got to understand and experience what the Christian life is all about; started to understand God’s will for their lives and have accepted God as the Lord of their lives. The parents attend church services, and the children Sunday School on a regular basis.
Recently, through a MWB’s Special Project fulfillment, the family received a cow; “The cow helps me to feed my family and to prepare tasty food for my family. I try to produce cheese and cream in order to vary the food for my children. It is wonderful to have it and we are grateful to God for offering it to us, because we, by ourselves, were not able to provide our family with a cow,” expressed a grateful Svetlana.
Through another Special Project, the Postica family was assisted in building a greenhouse which has enabled them to produce cucumbers and tomatoes for their own use, and for selling to neighbours.
“We dreamed of having a greenhouse and we thought that it would remain just an unattainable dream. God’s plans for us are so deep and unknown. He has sent us His help when it was least expected by us. We are amazed when we see the way He works in our family,” said Efim.
As they did not have an irrigation system, they had to physically carry water for the greenhouse plants using buckets; however, they have now been blessed, through the third Special Project, with a water pump. They are very encouraged and optimistic about their future production of cucumbers and tomatoes.
“Because we are a large family I need to have 6 loaves of bread every day. That is why we know we must work hard in order to support ourselves and to work in various domains to have our own products such as flour, meat and vegetables that will save us from huge expenses,” confessed Svetlana.
Although Efim is allergic to bees, he nevertheless enjoys bee farming which produces honey; “I am allergic to the bees’ bites, but I hope my body will adapt because I do not want to give up taking care of the bees and producing honey. The honey is very good for our health but is expensive in the market. This is why I intend, in the future, to increase the number of beehives,” said Efim.
It is amazing to see how families such as the Postica family progress when offered a helping hand through our F2F project. What they accomplish is done with a strong desire to become self-sufficient - both with God’s blessings and with the kind support of MWB’s generous F2F sponsors.
