Abject poverty after a life of hard work

“Do I have anything to eat today?” This question worries numerous elderly individuals in Eastern Europe each day. After dedicating their entire lives to working hard, many elderly individuals are faced with the harsh reality of living off a meager pension, which is barely enough to make ends meet. As a result, a large number of them end up living in extreme poverty, particularly those who do not have children to rely on. Although some are fortunate enough to have children who take care of them, more often than not, their children are either struggling financially themselves or have migrated to other countries in search of employment and better living conditions.

Soup Kitchens

Mission Without Borders has established 13 soup kitchens, also known as community centers, in Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Moldova, and Ukraine.

The Elderly can come here for a daily hot meal, find a listening ear, and receive comfort from God’s Word. At the same time, they get to meet and socialize with their peers, which helps break the social isolation they often find themselves in.

The Elderly flourish here and experience that they are treasured and respected.

GIVE NOW

Thankfulness

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, a significant number of elderly people are living in abject poverty. According to Blazenko, a staff member of MWB from Glamoč, many of them suffer from serious health issues and have no one to take care of them. One such elderly person is Radojka Mileta , who has three children. Unfortunately, her only surviving son lives in Serbia and is unable to provide for her needs.

Radojka used to visit the soup kitchen every day for a meal. Sadly, due to her mobility issues, she has become housebound and now relies on help at home.

“Thank you. I don’t know how I would survive without your help. God will reward you for it!” shared Radojka during a visit from Blazenko.

Your gift of R150 will cover the cost of a daily meal and Christian care for one elderly person for a week, and R600 will cover the same for a month.
